To be a successful teacher one needs to establish a good foundation, setting classroom rules and clear expectations from day one. I always start my classes by going over the class syllabus. I created a document that is easy to read and only has three rules as I feel that the simpler it is the easier it is for students to remember and adhere to it.
My three rules are:
Be on Time
Be Respectful and Courteous to Others
No Cell Phones
Each Semester I also include three bathroom passes that students can use or save and turn in at the end of each quarter for extra credit. This ingenious idea I stole from another teacher and has since made my students really consider if they need to leave the class or if they would rather save those passes to help them academically. The majority save the passes for extra credit and I don't have to deal with kids constantly asking to use the facilities - it's a win-win solution.
Finally, I store all my work including my slide presentations in Google Classroom, that way if a student is absent he just needs to login in to my Google Classroom and he will have access to everything he missed. During this quarantine, Google Classroom has made my transition as emergency virtual teacher a lot easier. For my artifact I only included a picture of My English 11B class front cover because I can't give you access to my actual classroom for privacy reasons. However, I totally recommend this resource as I have found it invaluable in my teaching experience.
